I know a few people from the Madden Mobile community didn’t like what I had to say about the main man, especially after the long struggle we had to go through to get him, but I wasn’t going to play dumb and just sit by playing with my new toy pretending he’s something he’s not or at least partially wasn’t. Even though I changed things up a bit he still happened to fall short in some aspects, just like before.
But still, you ask, you are not implementing him right, short passes, screens, etc. etc. and all due respect, I don’t care or will care about him being able to pull those plays off. They don’t mean a thing to me in a WR or is how I will ever grade a WR for this season. Why? you may ask, well, it’s because you can work your way through H2H, Season and Tournament with the weakest of receivers and running backs just as long as there agility, speed and catch are great. We can even take receivers out of the equation and talk about the budget beast, the holy grail McKinnon all day, who will do feed your needs with screens, short passes and will take it one step further and actually act as your running back all the way to the bank. He can do that and so can many other low leveled players, so when it comes to grading, screens and short passes don’t make the list for the reason that a gold player HB can give you the same performance, but just as better since he wont be covered or plagued with defensive all around him.
thanks to Med4_5Head for giving me the idea ” By the end of this season, he’ll only viable for slot-work”, because if it wasn’t for him, I would of never came back to OBJ as a receiver and would of stuck with Gronk full time.
Season Mode [ A+] 10/10
He got a terrible review in the last article, but I am happy to tell you after he was switched up to slot, he ended up becoming a stickem magnet. Play after play, 60 yard passes after 60 yard passes, the mad man was coming though with the 6. He was flawless, even when covered by more then one defender, but still on a few occasions his height still came into play and got him picked off. Though I did only end up getting picked twice in about 3 to 4 games after switching to Slot, which still ended up being an 100% improvement over the last evaluation where he was in the WR 1 position. The defenders stayed with him as usually since the AI seems to be over boosted in the game, but somehow he still ended pulling off the incredible. Though it was a risky move throwing any deep pass to him once you got closer to the end zone in around the 30 yards, which made you either have to throw to him in short passes, though that isn’t necessarily a bad thing since that is where he excels at the most.
H2H [ F- ] 0/10
It’s the same as before only i will give him an F+ for not getting picked off right away, but he still ended up with enough in-completions and picks in 3 games to keep him in the F- grade, honestly I don’t think there will ever be a WR that will be able to hold it down in long passes in Head To Head, even Gronk has trouble in this mode of the game, though I would say Gronk might end up the best H2H receiver in the game for the rest of the season, unless another version of him comes along with much better stats, which I also wouldn’t doubt.
All in all, the best players and positions in my honest opinion for H2H are the ones who continue to reign supreme, yes, the HB, the running backs. The best receiver to throw to, since they lack coverage from the defense and can double up as there main position an run it off when needed. Smash is the best play in game when not defended and when it is there are at least two more plays like it. If all the receiving short throw plays for the HB are countered you can always go back to the running game with your running backs or even try a few long pass plays where they you HB’s are implemented in.
So in the end, it’s no surprise that OBJ doesn’t live up to his hype in H2H, but then again why would you think he would. He can still come in handy as a short pass/screen playmaker if your HB is taking to much heat, because in the end it’s never a bad thing to have a plan B or C, depending who your plan B is between OBJ and Gronk.
Tournament was left out because it’s a 16 hour refresh until I can play it again. I will update with a grade as soon as I get a chance. [ Un-professionalism FTW ]
Tournament [ A+ ] 11/10
Nothing changed from last time we played with him in the Tournament mode, He was still godly and beasted at everything you could throw at him while in slot, which is amazing because balling out with him in the Tournament Mode as a WR was easy to begin with, he is an amazing receiver and is recommended as slot in this mode as well as in Season. Just saddens me that I have to wait 24 hours to use him 3 more times, this might be my favorite mode hands down where I get to use MM ODell in. He ends up being waaaaay overpowered and slightly feels like he’s on roids and this is while using him against 90 overall teams with 90 overall defenses. This is the only Mode as of right now where you can truly see the stats and agility of OBJ actually play out and be noticed. Try it out for yourself and I promise you won’t be disappointed. Have fun and ball-out!
Overall Grade A+
Why an A+ you may ask? Well he was outstanding after being moved over to slot in every aspect, yes he flopped in H2H, but every receiver flops in H2H, H2H is so broken that you are forced to use nothing but short passes and screend with WR’s and Running backs, it’s ridiculous, so I don’t take a broken mode into account, because it would take a miracle player to end up catching the deep pass and dominating on it in Madden Mobile. The verdicts are in, we have our King of slot for the time being.
Let me know what you think about the way your OBJ handles in the comments below, because we all know these players can end up handling differently for each individual.
If you don’t already know, On The house is the name of EA’s Origins video game program, where they give away a game of there choosing to the masses. They usually go old school on us, but there are times where they have given away something from last gen, but today it seems we are going to be keeping it chill with a bit of that 2001 Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 and Yuri’s Revenge. Well, not that chill, this is war we are talking about.
When it comes to Madden Mobile, the beginning of the season is the best time to experiment with players that will go in your bin for a quick buck in a few months time, this is where they are finally allowed to get their shine on, for example on our very 1st ever Madden Mobile MVP Beasts, we award the one and only Jerick Mckinnon the award of Amazing Superstar Champ. He might be only a gold carded player, but at HB he makes even the most Elite of Elites looks like squares on the playing field. I’m looking at you Marshawn Lynch and about every red card in the AH(auction house) currently.
He’s a monster with speed and and acceleration, yeah sure there’s one or two players who are at his level, one of them being Dri Archer who is only a silver with 96 speed, 95 acceleration, which triumphs over Mckinnon’s 2 most important stats, yet, he still doesn’t take the cake and make it to the squad in my book. Dri Archer is a player you want if you are going toe to toe with teams that are stacked with silver and gold, but in a fight against tanks and Elites, you don’t want to take him with you into battle. Because the last thing you want is to fumble and get thrashed on the most important drive in the game and in a game where the most simple task can go array, that’s a no, no.
Basically what I am saying is that Archer is a children’s toy compared to the great Mckinnon, who brings greatness all around with amazing stats coming from all sides of the table. instead of ranking at the top in the 2 most important stats of his position. He comes through as an all around player, since, what’s being ranked at the top in 2 attributes, when you are going to throw it all away with every other skill on your player chart. That’s why Mckinnon shines, his 94 speed is enough to break through and get the down whether it be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th and the majority of the time he can even take you all the way to the finish line on the first drive of the game. His acceleration stands at 93, to boost you away from harms reach, which is also on point and neck to neck with the fastest of defenders. But where he shines is at his 93 carry, and 75 strength which keeps him from fumbling all over the place, yet, where he destroys the most is at his 97 agility! The most important stat to make you the champ HB and the only one to need, especially when you already have the speed and acceleration under your belt.
93 carry and 75 strength! combined with 97 agility! but what does that mean? Well besides having sticky fingers and a good grip on the ball, the 97 agility makes those stats mean something, it puts the beast in beast mode, 97 agility! which basically comes through in the field as 97 trucking! which is the ability to go one on one with defenders and smack right into them without getting tackled to the ground, giving you a chance at more yardage or wait for it, a 94 yard touch down. Because when things go wrong, every other stat on a card can make everything go right, for example, in the picture above, you will see a Kickoff that wasn’t cought, yes, the ball if captured by the defending team would just set the ball for my team to start their, we wouldn’t lose it or anything, but starting at the 5 yard line is not 6 whole POINTS, which Mckinnon scored for me by sweeping the ball off the ground and running it back as he broke through big men with big hearts. If his stats aren’t special enough, lets just add 93 JKM, which stands for 93 Juke Move, yes! you heard it people! another form of breaking through the defenders!
But wait! Theirs more, yes, as you can see their are players that have boost and some are even exclusive to certain teams and in this case Kyle Rudolph the TE above gives +2 acceleration to the Vikings, which yes, you guessed it, Mckinnon is in the same team as. Which brings Mckinnons acceleration to 95, but wait, what if we add some boosts to his agility? Lets damage that line and burst you through to the finish line and add Linebacker Brian Orakpo who gives you plus one agility and then DE Mathais Kiwanuka who adds +1 acceleration, then, yes and then, Jason Kelce who adds 2 acceleration, but takes away one strength. Boy oh boy how you have a monster on your hands, but with a monstrous HB you want a just as fast QB, who acts like a HB himself and that’s when Michael Vick comes into the picture and also adds a boost of one more agility, to add onto Mckinnons stats. So you basically see where I am getting at. There are more players that can be added and a lot more boosts too, so this is not the best we can do, at the end with these few selected players we have Mckinnon at 98 acceleration and 99 agility, wooooo! Everyone give this little gold card a standing ovation, He’s the cream of the crop, a beast among chumps, All hail JERICK MCKINNON.
One more thing, yes one more thing, all those boosts, excluding Kyle Rudolph also go towards every other player on your team, so Huraaaaah! Quadruple Huraaaaah! if you are a Vikings fan with a Vikings team, which then Rudolph boosts all your players, if they are Vikings themselves.
Madden Mobile was gone for a bit getting ready for it’s Sophomore season, but it came back ready for school with fresh new digs and a whole new play style. But with the good, always comes the bad and the Ugly.
It’s back, With a new start screen, even lets you start over with a new nickname at the start of the boot.
Also depending on your Legacy rank last year, you get sent off to a scary new world with a few gifts that make it much more comfortable for you to adjust, that will not only drastically help you at the start, but keep you from having a squad of clunky players that can’t get the job done. The pack comes with 2 guaranteed Elites in package. Though be warned, these elites are not sell-able and stick with you until you decide to throw them away for 100 coins in the AH.
But before doing so and starting the game, you will want to look at your previous team, that has passed away to be forever known as your Legacy team, for one last time. Which you will be able to find in the Trophy room, but what makes it all that much greater, is that anyone can glance over what was once your baby that you worked so hard to achieve.
Greeting us with the new to do’s are 108 new achievements that are as accomplish as the ones before, but as you know, we are already on the hunt[53/108]. With the difficult beloved returning for another round of ground and pound vengeance, we have ourselves the Return A Kick and Return A Punt for a TD, but as always you have to do it 3 times, once for Season Mode, then two more times for Head 2 Head and Leagues. But lets brush those aside since we have a year and we are Legends in the making.
Previously the Domination cards have been the beast of the pile, not able to be replaced with other cards, because the tier level and prowess it brought to your team was too much to be desired, so they hit us hard, with two achievable monsters right at the start. Only difference is that last year their was only one worth striving for and this year, well it just started and your team is set to be glowing with 99’s that impact and boost your team to a ridiculous level, then whats the point you ask. won’t everyone have a amazing team to begin with? well, the amount of energy these will take to get, that’s if you get the domination event at first try, you will still have to collect all 20 specific cards, since you are bound to get dupes, which as we all know it can take months to get the one you have been really wishing for, well make it all a struggle just as much as the last time. But this time around you won’t be held back by a limit, they replaced the twice a week event that you could only do once, with a higher energy count that gets taken from your stamina, so you are able to try as much as your will allows, right from the gecko. But in the end it would of all had been worth it for that +5 strength boost and 2% coins that you get from your new and hideously designed 99 Overall GRONK!
I know, I know, I thought you said we would be getting two Domination players at start? Well we are, but this is a whole nother gem, this domination card is going to take a while, for this time around you will have all sorts of time consuming tasks just to get a piece of the puzzle. Example, 4 League Tournament wins gets you 12 Tournament cards which 10 can be used to get yourself one piece to 10 Tournament Domination set, Which a tournament takes 24 hours and then winning is a whole nother thing, especially if you have people missing their drives or busting out 0’s resulting in losses which will end up taking you 10 whole games to finish one set. If lucky enough 35 wins, get you the set of 10, but now you have to finish the other sets, One being getting over 1 million fans and being at the top of the Ranking in Head 2 Head lol, how ridiculous is that? But what is so amazing about this player, that you will have to beat yourself up just to draft onto your team? Well, The most amazing boosted player of all time, with his stats still unknown to us all, until one of us finally accomplishes this ludicrous task. 99 Overall +5 Catch and +5 Awareness, HOLY COW, give it up for Domination OBJ!
More, More, More!!!!! Well we gotcha, with 5 Road To The Ring Elites that are a breeze to get compared to the Domination cards, so easy that I am almost finished with each one of the sets. All will bring your teams average overall, although will get you quite a nice amount of coin, if you consider taking that route, but their always has to be the least desirable card, which is basically set by the developers and this time around it;s the TRTTR Marshawn Lynch who plays a lot worst then his base elite cards and averages lower too, but it’s a no brainer since this one will be the most populated one in game compared to the base Elite that you have to capture through packs. I guess this is a Road To The Ring Edition, I guess it fits that this version of the card is the CHOKE EDITION.
More new cards off the back are the Flashback sets, Game Changers, Veterans, Captains, Legends and the brand new League Elites, that you will be able to earn through special packs you get from League sets. The League set requires 10 cards to be acquired each time and the cards are achieved through wins or losses in Tournament mode, with wins giving you more League set cards for you precious pack. These new League Elites are going to be a lot more rare than the RTTR sets, but not close to the status of the OBJ Domination. Each Elite League card will have one Awareness stat boost, which gets applied to the whole team, Just imagine a whole team of these babies. It’s just the start of the season so seeing who gets added into the future quarters of the season makes me giddy inside.
Mystery Boxes!? Yes!, new mystery boxes have been released and have become capture-able through pack openings, each with a mysterious logo and date on them for when you will be able to open and claim your prize from it’s capsule! Capsule Toys! The recent ones to have been unlocked have been bummers such as trophy cards and coins, but with a little gloom comes a little boom, with one Elite 91 Overall Saint Jairus Byrd. With a few still to be unlocked and much more being released along the way, how exciting!
Although new cards are the most exciting part for some of us, we want that new in on gamplay, well for the first time ever, only limited to season mode, you can actually play and run as a receiver, though you are limited it’s a blast and a fun way to play, though you will just end up skipping over the feature if you just want to play your way through the season. Now I know there is a ton more features and gameplay aspects that have added to the game that I will not be talking about this article, like the new force close killer (force closing, the act of closing the game to avoid losing against another player, so you can retake your drive.) or In Game challenges that randomly appear in a game, from season to h2h or even during your tournament, that you will have a chance to accomplish to get yourself a NFL Moments collectible. 10 collectible gets you a special NFL Moments pack with a few goodies inside, although their is no confirmation if their are special cards for this set as of yet.
Now the bad and the ugly, lets get straight to the point. Their are glitches and bugs all over this thing which breaks the game during events or even H2H, some bugs even work against you and has had opponents forcing your drive to a scoreless one and taking their next one right after, which as you can of course guess, gives them the W.
The passing also seems to be butchered, the majority of times you will have to mash the screen just so it can finally register and allow your QB to toss it off, but by then, depending who you play against, you’d be sacked. And in a game full of competitive drive, every single second counts, especially if you want to play elite teams with your brand new rookie squad, that you didn’t pay cash for.
Is that it? not really the Auction House is less then desirable when bidding against others, especially when you have one or it at least has seemed you have, since the auction house ends for you but keeps on going for others as they bid it out past the end time limit. Even losing players coins, that a few won’t ever get back, but hopefully with some luck they return into your bank within the next 24 hours or less.
These things can turn off a player and are major importance to be addressed by the devs and hopefully don’t go untreated like a lot of the issues from last season, this is the best mobile sports game out their, with an amazing community to go along with it, lets get the season started off right, lets just see this as the pre season butterflies. Now go off and get yourself set up right, for it’s almost GAME TIME.
