The PlayStation 4 has been out for 3 years and has so far been a clear winner in the console war with the Xbox One. Where Microsoft has been bending over backwards to get people to buy their console, Sony has been sitting pretty on their piles of money. Three years in this current console generation is a long time to go without a refresh. There have been rumors of a more powerful PlayStation 4, but it looks like user “memoryman3” on reddit have stumbled upon the slimmed down and possibly cheaper refresh of the current PlayStation 4 model. But are the pictures legit? You be the judge.
If this is a fake, someone went a long way to fool everyone. The new PlayStation 4 looks to have a rounder shape instead of the sharp trapezoidal look of the original. The controller will stay the same and it doesn’t appear that it will output in 4K like the Xbox One Model S. This version of the PS4 Slim will showcase a 500gb hard drive but will probably have more options to expand on that.
Some users stated that there isn’t an optical drive, but the console does have an eject and power button. Besides, dropping the optical drive mid cycle and only offering a 500gb hard drive would be really foolish of Sony. Also the Blu-ray logo confirms the PS4 slim will still play discs.
The console will come with standard equipment such as a controller with charging USB, power cord, HDMI cable. The bottom nubs of the console are X O ^ which is a nice little touch. The console will most likely be a cheaper option for the Christmas season to destroy any ground that Microsoft looks to gain by dropping the Xbox One price to $250. The only issue is that this PlayStation 4 slim looks very cheap.
The PlayStation 4 Slim is most likely going to be announced next month at the Tokyo Game Show, but for now these pictures look very convincing.
