The Legend of Zelda has been recreated in 3D for its 30th anniversary by a couple of dedicated fans
If you’re wondering what The Legend of Zelda would look like if it were in a top/down 3D format, wonder no more; The Legend of Zelda: 30 Year Tribute recreates the original Zelda title that’s playable in your browser or on your phone. Best of all you don’t have to blow your cartridge.
The Legend of Zelda: 30 Year Tribute is as close to the original as possible but with updated gameplay like diagonal controls and no loading of each individual screens. The framerate is smooth and the on screen controls are as accurate as they can be for a touch screen. The game reminds me of 3-D Dot Heroes for the PlayStation 3. Even the quirky bugs are in the game as well such as bypassing the locked door in the first dungeon. It’s not perfect, but it comes pretty darn close.
The game is mostly complete, but a couple of caves remind you that this is a demo. Overall it’s really neat to see a fan-made project like this be pulled off so well. You can play it right now at their website.
